After-School Program Director, DYCD Compass
Program Director will be responsible for the management and supervision of a school-based after-school program. Responsibilities include involvement in all aspects of daily program operations. The Director will also be assigned administrative duties, including data entry, and must be organized and efficient in multi-tasking. This position may also require planning, stakeholder development, and human resources aspects of the program. Additional tasks will be assigned as-needed to accomplish program goals. Computer literacy and strong organizational skills are required. A collaborative spirit, skillset in supporting middle school students with building and navigating peer relationships as well as a positive can-do attitude are essential for this position.
Ideal candidate:
Background in social work, counseling or other related mental health background with experience in direct services with students to ensure a safe community of engagement, respect, and social emotional health. Additionally ideal is are candidates with DYCD experience. Candidates with an educational background who have experience utilizing social emotional learning techniques including restorative practices, and classroom management tools will also be considered.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Management of daily operations, including communications with the school's administration, teachers, secretaries, and custodial staff;
- Organize schedules, maintain accurate attendance logs, ensure logistics such as snack and program spaces are arranged, plan trips, submit supply requests, and address programmatic needs;
- Build strong relationships with the school principal and administrative team to facilitate seamless integration of CIS staff and expanded hours into the overall school culture;
- Build and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders (participants, parents, school staff and administration, funders, the community, and CIS);
- Familiarity with DOH and DYCD regulations and meets all contractual obligations, specifically in enrollment and rate of participation, and ensure that all requirements are met;
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date attendance data and meet deadlines for data entry into database;
- Managing, interviewing, training, and coaching of program staff and volunteers;
- Conduct classroom observations; report information back to the CIS Manager on a consistent basis and address concerns as they arise;
- Input accurate time and attendance records for all staff, help maintain current staff and student files, incident and accident reports, and other required documentation and student data;
- Collaborate with the instructors to develop and ensure strong curriculum, activities, and that program content supports initiative goals and outcomes;
- Create a strong sense of community which values respect, acceptance, and high expectations; and
- Perform other duties and tasks as deemed necessary by CIS.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelors in social work, education, or related fields, or 3+ years of work experience in youth development is preferred;
- A minimum of 2 - 3 years of experience working with children in an educational or youth development setting is preferred;
- Strong leadership, conflict-resolution, and diplomacy skills;
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and multitask in a fast-paced environment;
- Strong understanding of healing-centered engagement and restorative practices
- Capacity to work independently and collaboratively;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Computer proficiency including Microsoft Word and Excel, email correspondence, and database management is required;
- Familiarity with New York State standards;
- Must be available to work Monday through Friday 12:00pm-6:00pm.
- Must take part in 15 hours of professional development opportunities per year and be available for some organization events outside of regular business hours.
Additional Information:
Work Hours are from 12:00 pm to 6:00pm Monday-Friday.
Salaried position from $40,000 to $50,000 depending on experience.
